Caracterización de la Tasa de Egreso Hospitalario en Fracturas de Radio y Ulna Durante el Periodo 2019-2022 en Chile.

Background: The most frequent group of fractures are those of the forearm. A bimodal age distribution is described in the literature, with a first peak in childhood/adolescence secondary to sports activity and a second peak after 50 years of age, secondary to low energy trauma. Nationwide, there are no epidemiological studies that characterize these fractures, making it imperative to analyze and characterize the populations with the highest prevalence.
Methods: Descriptive and retrospective study using data from the Department of Statistics and Health Information (DEIS), characterizing by sex and age, fracture subtype and in-patient stay the hospital discharges for radius and ulna fracture in Chile in the interval 2019-2021, selecting individuals with the diagnostic criterion "S52 Radius and Ulna Fracture" according to ICD-10.
Results: The mean hospital discharge rate (HDR) during the studied interval was 61.23 per 100,000 inhabitants. There was a slight female predominance, with an HDR of 64.94, in contrast to the male HDR of 60.94. There is an evident pediatric preponderance with an HDR in the intervals of 5-9 and 10-14 years of 128.39 and 113.89. A second HDR peak was described in older adults, with an HDR of 128.39 in the 64-79 age group. The male population aged 10-14 years had a HDR of 184.86, being the highest of the studied period. fracture of the lower epiphysis of the radius was the most frequent fracture subtype with an HDR of 87, and 35% of the total fractures during the studied period. Average hospital stay was 2.89 days.
Conclusion: Similar evidence was found between national data and international literature, supporting the implementation of prevention policies for this type of fractures according to population characteristics.
